![]() He helps the Smiths with his disguises far more often than he antagonizes them (except Klaus), though for him the motive seems to be more the chance to dress up than an act of kindness. The entire reason he came to be with the Smiths is because he went out of his way to save Stan from a botched CIA attack. Despite having little to no sense of empathy the majority of times, he is often shown to genuinely care about Stan.Roger risked his life by saving Stan from being blown up by a grenade, and also, when the CIA began tracking him down, was willing to let Stan kill him to keep the Smith family safe.In "Cops & Roger", Roger kills the dirty cop to protect Stan.Despite Roger's depravity and willingness to sell Steve out when needed, it's oddly heartwarming the way the two bond sometimes. The end of "The One That Got Away", when Roger as himself can't bear to leave Judy alone and crying so he invites her to go out to dinner with him.In the episode Roger Codger, it's revealed that he saved Stan's life at Area 51 despite having just met him and the later trying to capture him. However, there is some justification for some of his behavior as in Frannie 911 it's revealed his species needs to be jerks or it otherwise builds up as bile and kills them. He also killed five people plus a planeload of innocent victims for $20 and mentions killing six others for $19. Roger is also shown to be a dangerous and scatterbrained sociopath committing theft, various drug offenses and many counts of murder throughout the series. Roger also has a history of holding grudges as he tried to kill the Smith family for insulting him at his Comedy roast, by starting a gas leak causing an explosion, hiring a hitman to kill them, removing the brakes from Stan's vehicle, and writing death threats to Merlin Olsen for seven years after Father Murphy was canceled. He once convinced Steve he was adopted as his revenge for Steve eating the last cookie. He is also a violent, homicidal, slaughterous, and unpleasant sociopath with a love for character role-playing. Roger Adelson, one of MacFarlane's former professors. ![]() He has lived with the Smiths for four years. Roger (his name may come from the word Andrognous which means having both male and female traits) came to live with the Smith family after saving Stan Smith's life in Area 51. Speculation exists regarding Roger's sexuality, but the discussion might be moot, as he is, after all, an alien. Nevertheless, while unconfirmed, some fans have theorized that low ratings against bigger shows may have been the cause, as well as a focus on different content. He is a gray alien living with the Smith family. Roger is sarcastic, vituperative, irritable, bad-tempered, curmudgeonly, argumentative, uncompromising, disrespectful, obnoxious, surly, and impolite, so he speaks in swish. ![]() However, in the case of American Dad, time proved the opposite. There's also the unspoken rule that if any series were to move networks, it was equal to a death sentence. For example, one source announced an upcoming lineup of FOX shows that were airing their last episodes, which included American Dad. The causes for American Dad's eventual shift to TBS were more inferred than confirmed, but even still, a lack of official confirmation could be seen as enough. A great example of this could be seen in the many shenanigans Roger would find himself in. This could partly be due to the humor that, unlike Family Guy, focused less on cutaways and more on situational humor. In fact, in 2013, the series was awarded "top television series" by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, among nominations for multiple Primetime Emmy and Annie Awards. American Dad was, in no way, a lesser show to its contemporaries.
